Home Health Advantages Over Nursing Home Care

Even though the cost of home healthcare may be higher than for assisted living and nursing homes, there are definite advantages to home healthcare. The average cost for assisted living services is around 3000 per month versus about 20 per hour for in-home care. These facilities do not offer round-the-clock individual client care. While nursing homes provide skilled care, service is not rendered on a one-to-one basis. The average nursing home can cost 50,000 to 200,000 yearly.

The most important advantage to in-home care is independence. The client is able to remain in familiar surroundings with family and friends. Family members have more input regarding how much help is needed and when help is needed based on their personal schedules.

Another advantage of in-home care versus a nursing home is that care is administered on a one caregiver to one client basis often resulting in a very meaningful relationship for both of them. While nursing homes offer socialization for those clients who are still mobile, in-home caregivers have the time to get to know their patient and provide opportunities for conversations which can be more meaningful to the client than group activities offered in assisted living and nursing home situations.
